If you subscribed before order-based pricing

Nothing changes for you. Stores already on an older Hype Discounts plan keep the pricing they approved, on the terms they approved, until they choose to move. Order-based pricing applies to new subscriptions and to anyone who deliberately switches.

Which plan you are on

Open Plan in Hype Discounts. If you are grandfathered, the top of the page shows your existing subscription with an Active badge and the date it started, rather than the tier and order count a new subscriber sees.

Your planWhat it is
Hype Usage Billing"Billed on the revenue Hype generates for you, up to $99.99 per cycle."
Hype Enterprise"$349 per month flat."

How the older usage plan works

The terms you approved read:

Usage billing up to $99.99 USD per billing cycle based on overall Hype-attributed revenue. There is no charge below $1,000 total revenue. Billing is $39.99 per billing cycle from $1,000 to under $20,000 total revenue, and $99.99 per billing cycle at $20,000 total revenue and above.

Two things about it are worth spelling out, because they are the opposite of how the new pricing works:

  • It is measured in revenue Hype generated for you, not in orders your store took.
  • The figure is cumulative across the life of the app on your store. It does not reset every cycle. Once your all-time Hype-attributed revenue passes a threshold, later cycles are billed at that level even if a particular cycle was quiet.

The new order-based pricing behaves differently on both counts: it counts your store's paid orders, and the count restarts every 30 days, so a quiet cycle costs nothing. See How pricing works.

Switching to order-based pricing

The Plan page shows the new choices below your existing plan, with a note:

Order-based pricing is now available. Choosing it below replaces this subscription from your next billing cycle; nothing changes until you approve it in Shopify.

  1. Read the two choices and the All prices table. They are priced at your store's live order volume, so you can compare directly against what you pay today.
  2. Click the button on the one you want.
  3. Approve it in Shopify.

The switch is applied on your next billing cycle. Your current period finishes and invoices exactly as it would have; the new subscription starts when it ends. Nothing is charged twice and nothing is prorated.

Switching does not restart the 7-day trial — that applies to first-time subscribers.

Switching is one way

Once you leave a grandfathered plan, you cannot go back to it. The older plans are not offered on the Plan page and support cannot re-create them for you. The same applies if you cancel a grandfathered subscription, or uninstall and reinstall the app — the pricing does not come back.

So: if the older plan is cheaper for your store, stay on it. Compare the two carefully before you switch, and ask support if the comparison is not obvious. There is no deadline and no forced migration.

Should you switch?

A rough guide, using your own numbers:

  • Look at what you were charged in the last few cycles under the old plan.
  • Look at the paid orders your store took in the same periods and find the matching tier in All prices.
  • If your Hype-attributed revenue is high relative to your order count — high average order value, most orders discounted — the older plan may cost more. If you take many orders and Hype touches few of them, the older plan may cost less.

The Suite is also worth a look if you use, or want, more than one Hype app: see The Hype Suite subscription.
