Live pricing limits

Live pricing rewrites prices in the shopper's browser, and that puts real limits on what it can do. Read these before you turn it on for a live store.

Only some discount types

Live pricing can be enabled on an Active campaign whose discount type is:

  • Order Discount
  • Multi Products Discount
  • Volume Discount

For Cart Goals, Gift with Purchase and multi-discount campaigns, the Enable live pricing option does not appear in the campaign's three-dot menu. There is no way to force it on, and no plan that unlocks it.

Volume Discount campaigns price against the current cart, so the displayed price reflects how many units the shopper already has.

Fixed-amount order discounts are displayed incorrectly

This is a known bug. A campaign of type Order Discount with a fixed amount — "$10 off your order" — will render every eligible product as its own price minus $10. A $30 product shows as $20, a $45 product shows as $35, and a cart of three products implies $30 of savings when the shopper will actually get $10 off the order total.

The reason is structural: an order-level fixed amount cannot be divided across products on a product or collection page, because Hype does not know what the shopper's cart will contain when the page renders. There is no allocation across line items, and no check against the cart subtotal.

There is no guard in the admin. The Enable live pricing option appears for any Order Discount campaign, whether its value is a percentage or a fixed amount.

What to do: do not enable live pricing on a fixed-amount Order Discount campaign. If you want live prices on an Order Discount, use a percentage value — a percentage applies identically to every item, so it displays correctly. If you need a fixed amount off the order, run the campaign without live pricing and communicate the offer with an announcement bar or product banner instead.

One automatic campaign at a time

Among automatic campaigns, only one can have live pricing enabled. Enabling it on a second automatic campaign disables it on the first. The confirmation dialog warns you: Note: If another automatic campaign has live pricing enabled, it will be disabled automatically.

Campaigns that use a discount code are not affected by this rule.

Live pricing and SSR live pricing can both be on for the same campaign. If the schema targets prices the theme snippet already rendered, those prices repaint after load — scope the schema to app-rendered areas. See Using it together with live pricing.

Processed elements are not re-processed

Once Hype has rewritten a price element on the page, it marks it as done and leaves it alone. This keeps the page fast, but it means a change made while the page is open does not reach elements that were already rewritten. If you change a campaign or the schema and want to see the result, reload the page rather than waiting.

Two caches sit in front of you as well:

  • Campaign data is cached for up to 10 minutes. Changing a campaign or the schema clears it automatically, but you can force it with Clear Cache in Settings. See Clearing the cache.
  • The shopper's browser caches product data for 10 minutes, and that cache expires on its own.

Other things to expect

  • A brief flash of the original price. The rewrite happens after the page loads. SSR live pricing removes it, at the cost of a theme code edit.
  • The schema is tied to one theme. Change themes, or make significant edits to your price markup, and the selectors may stop matching. Rerun Auto set-up with AI on the new theme. Hype warns you when the schema was generated against a different theme than the one selected; the warning does not disable live pricing.
  • Prices are a display layer. Live pricing shows a number; the actual discount is applied by Shopify at checkout. If they disagree, the campaign configuration is the thing to fix.
  • Auto set-up with AI is a paid-plan feature, and is disabled on development stores.
