A Cart Goals campaign is a ladder of spend thresholds, each unlocking a reward. The admin describes it as "Encourage higher spend by unlocking milestone rewards or gifts." Every tier can grant a different kind of reward — a gift, an amount off the cart, or free shipping — and it is the only Hype type that can produce all three, including shipping discounts.

It is also the type the storefront progress bar is built for.

Setting one up

  1. Open Hype Campaigns and click Create New Campaign.
  2. Enter a Campaign name.
  3. Choose Cart Goals as the discount type.
  4. Choose a Campaign type and a discount method, then click Next.
  5. Fill in Title or Discount code.
  6. Set Target markets, ticking Customize amounts for each market if your thresholds differ by market.
  7. Under Customer buys from, leave All products and collections ticked, or untick it and pick the products or collections whose subtotal counts toward the goals. Use Exclude Products / Collections to leave items out.
  8. Under Discount goals, click Add Tier.
  9. Enter the tier's Minimum subtotal.
  10. Click Select what customer gets... and choose a rule type: Free gifts, Amount off cart or Free shipping. Configure it, then Save changes.
  11. Repeat from step 8 for each further tier. Each Minimum subtotal must be higher than the one before it.
  12. Under How rewards are given when multiple goals are completed, choose Grant reward for all completed goals or Grant reward for the latest completed goal.
  13. Set the shared settings — purchase type, customer eligibility, combinations, sales channels and active dates. See common campaign settings.
  14. Click Next, add a Progress banner block, and click Finish.

What counts toward a goal

The subtotal of the lines matching Customer buys from decides which tiers are met — not the whole cart, unless you left it on All products and collections. Excluded products never count.

The three rewards

Free gifts

The shopper receives a product free or discounted.

  • Auto-add to cart — "All selected products will be auto-added to cart." Pick the gifts with Add Products.
  • Let the customer choose — the shopper picks from your list; set products max for how many. The number must be less than or equal to the number of options you added.
  • Pricing: Free (the default), Percentage, or Amount off each.
  • Allow customer to remove free gift — "Prevents the gift from being re-added if a customer removes it."
  • Auto-remove gift when no longer eligible — "Removes the gift when its qualifying items are no longer in the cart."

Amount off cart

  • Percentage or Fixed amount, entered in Amount off value, taken off the cart value.

Free shipping

  • All countries, or Selected countries using the country search.
  • Under Shipping rates, tick Exclude shipping rates over a certain amount and set the limit in Exclude shipping rates over to keep expedited or premium rates out of the offer.

Stack all, or highest only

How rewards are given when multiple goals are completed decides what a shopper who passes several tiers actually gets.

  • Grant reward for all completed goals (the default) — every tier they have passed is granted. On a $50 / $100 / $200 ladder, a $220 cart collects all three rewards.
  • Grant reward for the latest completed goal — only the highest tier they reached. The same $220 cart collects only the $200 reward.

Choose "all" when the rewards are different in kind — free shipping plus a gift plus an amount off reads as generous and does not double-discount. Choose "latest" when the tiers are the same reward at rising values, because stacking 10% and 20% and 25% off is rarely what you meant.

The progress bar

Add a Progress banner block on the Campaign blocks step to show shoppers how close they are. Per goal you can set a Goal name, a Success message, and Show icon in progress bar. Replace header with final success message swaps the header once the last goal is met, and Show offers chooses what the bar displays: Current goal, Next goal or Hide goal.

Block copy accepts variables including {{min_cart_amount}}, {{pending_amount}} and {{next_discount}}, so the bar can read "Add $18 more for Free shipping" without you hard-coding anything.

Limits and gotchas

  • Tier subtotals must ascend. Hype rejects a tier whose minimum is not greater than the previous one: "value should be greater than previous subtotal".
  • A tier with no reward selected does nothing. The summary shows "No discount selected" — go back and configure it.
  • Gifts and the progress bar need the Hype app embed enabled in your published theme. Without it, no gift is added and no bar renders.
  • A gift already in the cart survives the cart dropping below its tier unless Auto-remove gift when no longer eligible is on.
  • Free shipping is capped by the rate limit you set, not by the carrier. A $40 express rate is not covered by a campaign that excludes rates over $25.
  • This is the only type that grants free shipping. If free shipping is the whole promotion, a one-tier Cart Goals campaign is still the way to build it.
  • Combinations start unchecked, so the campaign does not stack with other discounts by default. Free shipping in particular needs Shipping discounts ticked to coexist with another shipping offer.
  • Storefront blocks can lag a change by up to 10 minutes because of Hype's cache. Settings → Cache → Clear Cache forces a refresh.
