Campaign status and scheduling

Every campaign shows one of four statuses: Draft, Active, Scheduled or Expired. Only two of them are stored — a campaign is either draft or active — and Hype derives Scheduled and Expired from the campaign's active dates. The campaigns list filters by all four: All, Active, Draft, Scheduled, Expired.
What each status means
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Draft | The campaign is off. No Shopify discount is running for it. |
| Active | The campaign is on, its start date has passed, and its end date has not. |
| Scheduled | The campaign is on, but its start date is in the future. |
| Expired | The campaign is on, it has an end date, and that date has passed. |
The rules run in that order. A campaign saved as a draft always reads Draft, whatever its dates say. Otherwise, a future start wins over everything, and only then is the end date checked — and only if you ticked Set end date. A campaign with no end date never expires.
Setting the schedule
Active dates sits near the bottom of the Discount step.
- Pick a day in Start date.
- Pick a time in Start Time.
- Tick Set end date if the campaign should stop by itself.
- Pick End date and End Time.
- Save.
The date pickers accept today through one year from today. The end must be later than the start — Hype shows "End date must be after the start date when enabled" if it is not.
Time zone
The Start Time and End Time labels carry a time zone abbreviation in brackets, for example Start Time (GMT+2). That abbreviation is the time zone of the computer you are using, not your store's. If you administer your store from a different time zone than the store's own, set the times to the wall-clock time you see in the picker and check the result on the campaign card, which shows the resolved Starts and Ends values.
The times themselves are absolute moments, so a campaign that starts at a given instant starts at that same instant for every shopper regardless of where they are.
Turning a campaign on and off by hand
From the campaigns list, open a campaign's actions menu and choose Disable Campaign or Enable Campaign, then confirm. From inside a campaign, the same two actions sit under More Actions.
- Disable Campaign moves it to Draft and deactivates the Shopify discount. Its storefront blocks stop rendering.
- Enable Campaign moves it back to Active and reactivates the Shopify discount.
Disabling does not delete anything. Delete Campaign is separate, cannot be undone, and removes the Shopify discount with it.
You can also toggle a campaign from a Shopify Flow workflow using Hype's Flow action, which is useful for turning promotions on and off automatically.
What Shopify enforces and what Hype enforces
Shopify enforces the schedule. Your start and end dates become the discount's own startsAt and endsAt, so a scheduled campaign starts and stops in Shopify's checkout without Hype doing anything at that moment. That also means the discount is genuinely inactive outside the window — a shopper cannot force it with a code or a link.
Hype derives what you see on the campaigns list. The Scheduled and Expired badges are calculated in the admin from the same dates; they are labels, not a second enforcement layer.
Limits and gotchas
- Saving a campaign is not the same as activating it. A campaign becomes Active only after Hype successfully writes its discount to Shopify. If it stays on Draft after you clicked Finish, the write failed — most often because the store already has 25 active automatic discounts, which is Shopify's per-store cap.
- A scheduled campaign occupies a discount slot from the moment it is created, not from its start date. Ten campaigns scheduled for next month are ten of your 25 automatic discount slots today.
- An expired campaign is still stored as active. It still holds its discount slot. If you are near the cap, disable expired campaigns rather than leaving them.
- Storefront blocks can lag a schedule change by up to 10 minutes. Hype caches the storefront payload and clears the cache automatically every 10 minutes. If you need a change live immediately, go to Settings → Cache and click Clear Cache. The discount itself is not affected by this — only the blocks.
- Products in smart collections can lag by up to 4 hours. Hype refreshes smart collections every 4 hours; Settings → Sync smart collections → Sync Now forces it. This matters when a campaign is scheduled to start soon after you have changed a smart collection's rules.
- Changing the start date of a campaign that has already started does not un-charge past orders. It only changes the window from that point on.
