Common campaign settings

Every discount type in Hype shares the same surrounding settings: target markets, minimum purchase, purchase type, customer eligibility, maximum discount rules, combinations, sales channels and active dates. Purchase type, customer eligibility, maximum discount rules, combinations, sales channels and active dates sit once under Common settings, labelled "Applies to all discounts"; target markets and minimum purchase belong to each discount and sit on its own step. Campaigns created before October 2026 show all of them on the Discount step below the type-specific fields.

Some of these settings are enforced by Shopify and some by Hype. That matters when something behaves unexpectedly, because it tells you where to look.

Anything Shopify enforces is part of the discount itself and is visible in your Shopify admin's Discounts page. Anything Hype enforces is evaluated inside Hype's discount function when the cart is priced, and is only visible in Hype.

Target markets

The default is "All markets are selected". Click Edit to open the market picker and choose specific ones; markets you leave out never see the campaign.

Only region markets appear in the picker. B2B (company location) and retail (POS) markets can't be targeted: Hype matches a buyer by the region they're shopping from, so a B2B customer in the Netherlands is treated as the Netherlands market, not as your B2B market. Use B2B customers under Customer eligibility instead.

Tick Customize amounts for each market to set a different value per market. Every amount field in the campaign then opens a market table when you click it. Your primary market takes the amount you type. Other markets show Converted at checkout, meaning Shopify converts your primary amount at the live exchange rate at the moment of checkout. Switch Override on beside any market to type a fixed amount in that market's own currency instead.

An override replaces only the fields you actually fill in. Everything else keeps inheriting the primary market's amount.

Minimum purchase requirements

Three options:

  • No minimum requirements
  • Minimum purchase amount — the subtotal must reach the value you set
  • Minimum quantity of items — the cart must hold at least that many items

Gift with Purchase does not use this setting. It has its own Customer buys condition per rule instead. Cart Goals and Volume Discount also carry their own thresholds, per tier.

Purchase type

One-time purchase, Subscription, or Both. The default is one-time only, so a campaign left untouched does not discount subscription orders.

Customer eligibility

  • All customers
  • Segments — pick one or more Shopify customer segments
  • Customers — pick named customers

There is also Logged-in customers only, described in the admin as "Customers must sign in to use discounts."

B2B customers controls buyers who purchase on behalf of a company — anyone logged in as a contact of a company you've set up under Customers → Companies. They're matched by their company location, not by the market they browse from, so this is the only way to target or exclude them:

  • Included — the default. B2B buyers get the campaign like anyone else in a targeted market.
  • Excluded — B2B buyers never get the campaign, whichever market they browse from.
  • Only B2B customers — the campaign applies to B2B buyers alone. Use this for trade or wholesale pricing.

This is a common setting and applies to every discount in the campaign.

If the segment or customer you want does not exist yet, create it from Shopify's Customers page or Segments page first; Hype only picks from what already exists.

Maximum discount rules

This section appears only when the discount method is a code. It holds two settings:

  • Limit number of times this discount can be used in total, with a Usage limit value
  • Limit to one use per customer

Automatic discounts have no usage limits, because Shopify does not offer them for automatic discounts. If you need a cap, use a code campaign.

Combinations

"This order discount can be combined with:" followed by three checkboxes — Product discounts, Order discounts, Shipping discounts. All three start unchecked, so by default a Hype campaign does not stack with anything else running on the store.

These control combination with discounts outside this campaign. Discounts inside one campaign are handled separately — see combining discounts in one campaign.

Sales channels

  • Online Store (and other sales channels)
  • POS, with Add POS locations or "All POS locations are selected"

Both are on by default. Note Shopify's own limitation, which Hype repeats next to the setting: an automatic discount only applies at POS Pro locations.

Exclusions

Most types offer an exclusion list — Exclude products and Exclude collections, or Exclude Products / Collections inside a discount rule. Excluded items are removed from the discount before it is calculated, which for an Order Discount means they are removed from the base the percentage is taken on, not just skipped. Gift cards are the usual thing to exclude.

Limits and gotchas

  • Combinations default to off. If a Hype campaign and a Shopify discount both need to apply, you must tick the matching boxes in both.
  • Two product-class discounts stack on an order but not on the same line. That is Shopify's behavior, not Hype's, and no setting changes it.
  • Market amounts only convert if you leave them on Converted at checkout. A market you have overridden keeps its typed amount even if exchange rates move.
  • Shopify allows 25 active automatic discounts per store, counting every active automatic campaign — including scheduled and expired ones, which are still stored as active.
  • A campaign that fails to activate stays in Draft. Check the store's active automatic discount count first.
