What is live pricing?

Live pricing makes your storefront show the discounted price before checkout. Without it, a Shopify automatic discount is only applied at checkout, so a shopper browsing a collection page sees the full price and has to take your word for the offer. With live pricing on, Hype rewrites the price your theme printed — original price struck through, discounted price beside it — on product pages, collection pages and anywhere else your theme shows a price.
In the Hype admin the feature is called Live storefront prices, and a campaign using it carries a Live pricing badge in the campaign list.
What it does and does not touch
Live pricing changes what shoppers see. It does not change your products. Hype never edits compare_at_price, never edits your catalog, and never creates a sale price in Shopify. The actual discount is still applied by the campaign, through Shopify's own discount system, at checkout.
That also means live pricing is a display layer. If a campaign is misconfigured, live pricing will faithfully display the wrong number. Always test a campaign end to end before running it.
How it works
- You give Hype a schema: a short list of CSS selectors describing where prices live in your theme and what markup should replace them. Most merchants let Hype's Auto set-up with AI write this by scanning the storefront.
- A shopper loads a page. The Hype: Discounts app embed fetches the active campaigns for that shopper's market.
- If live pricing is enabled shop-wide and on the campaign, and the campaign's discount type supports it, Hype finds the price elements described by your schema, works out the discounted price for each product, and swaps in the new markup.
- Hype keeps watching the page. As the shopper scrolls, lazy-loaded product cards get the same treatment; when the shopper changes a variant on a product page, the price is recalculated for that variant.
Because the rewrite happens in the shopper's browser after the page loads, there is a brief moment where the original price is visible. If that flash matters to you, see SSR live pricing, which renders the discounted price on Shopify's servers instead.
What you need
- The Hype: Discounts app embed enabled in your theme.
- Live storefront prices enabled in Settings.
- Live pricing enabled on the individual campaign, from the campaign's three-dot menu.
- A valid pricing schema for the theme you are running.
All four have to be true. Missing any one of them means no prices are rewritten. Full walkthrough: Setting up live pricing.
Limits worth knowing before you start
- Live pricing works for Order Discount, Multi Products Discount and Volume Discount campaigns only.
- Only one automatic campaign can have live pricing at a time.
- A fixed-amount Order Discount is displayed incorrectly, because an order-level amount cannot be divided across products on a product page.
- The schema is written for one theme. Change themes and you need to run the AI set-up again.
These are covered in detail in Live pricing limits. Read that article before enabling live pricing on a live store.
