A campaign is one discount offer plus the storefront blocks that advertise it. To build one, open Hype Campaigns in your Shopify admin and click Create New Campaign. The wizard has three steps: Campaign name & type, Discount, and Campaign blocks.
Before you start
Enable the Hype: Discounts app embed in your theme — see enable the app embed. Without it, no Hype block renders on your storefront and link campaigns cannot apply their code. Hype shows an Enable Hype embed block banner on the campaigns page until it is on.
Step 1 — Campaign name & type
- Type a name in Campaign name. It is internal only — shoppers never see it, and it does not appear in the Shopify admin's discount list. It must be at least 3 characters. Hype pre-fills a name like
4 Sep Order Discountwhen you pick a discount type; overwrite it. - Pick a Discount type. There are five: Order Discount, Multi Products Discount, Gift with Purchase, Cart Goals and Volume Discount. See which discount type should I use?.
- To run several discounts in one campaign, turn on Multiple discounts at the top right and click Add Discount for each one. You can also add more later, from this same step — see combining discounts in one campaign.
- Choose a Campaign type: Public campaign (all store visitors see it) or Link campaign (only visitors with the link). If you choose Link campaign, set the slug in URL for this link campaign or click Auto-generate.
- Choose a discount method: Automatic (no code, applied at checkout) or Discount code, to be applied by the customer. Link campaigns are code-only, so this choice is hidden for them.
- Click Next.
Campaign type and discount method are two separate settings, not one list. Both a public campaign and a link campaign can carry a code; only a public campaign can be automatic. Public and link campaigns explains the difference.
Step 2 — Common settings and Discount
Common settings holds what applies to every discount in the campaign — purchase type, customer eligibility, maximum discount rules, combinations, sales channels and active dates — described once in common campaign settings. Save it and the Discount step opens: that is where the offer itself lives, and its fields depend on the type you picked, plus its own target markets and minimum purchase.
Two fields appear at the top of this step regardless of type:
- Title (automatic method) — shoppers see this in the cart and at checkout.
- Discount code (code method) — shoppers must type this at checkout. Use Generate random code if you do not have one in mind.
Fill in the type-specific fields, then click Next. The full field-by-field walkthrough for each type is in the Discount types category.
Step 3 — Campaign blocks
Campaign blocks are the storefront UI that tells shoppers the offer exists: Announcement Bar, Toast (Pop-up), Gift banner, Volume discount selector, Volume discount table, Banner, Product Price Block and Progress banner. They are grouped under two tabs, Storewide and Product page.
- Click Add campaign block.
- Pick a block type. Only one block of each type can be added to a campaign — adding a second shows Block type already exists!.
- Edit the block's copy. Fields accept variables such as
{{discount}},{{discount_code}}and{{eligibility_pending}}; the block editor lists the ones each block supports. - Click Save changes.
- Click Finish.
Blocks are optional. A campaign with no blocks still discounts the cart — it just does not announce itself on the storefront.
If you land on this step and see Complete discount setup first, go back to step 2 and finish the discount configuration.
What happens when you finish
Hype creates one Shopify discount for the campaign and flips its status to Active. Until that write succeeds the campaign stays in Draft, so a campaign stuck on Draft means the discount was never created in Shopify. See campaign status and scheduling.
Limits and gotchas
- Shopify allows 25 active automatic discounts per store. Every active automatic campaign uses one. Hype does not count them for you in advance — passing the cap shows up as an activation error from Shopify.
- Switching between Automatic and Code later deletes the Shopify discount and creates a new one. Any usage restrictions reset, and if the old code or title was already used, the switch can fail outright. Hype warns you first with the Switching Discount Method dialog.
- A public automatic campaign cannot be changed into a link campaign once its Shopify discount exists. The campaign type buttons are disabled at that point. Create a new campaign instead.
