Multi Products Discount

A Multi Products Discount holds several independent discount rules in one campaign, each aimed at its own products or collections. The admin describes it as "Set different discounts for specific products or collections." Use it to run 20% off one collection and 10% off another at the same time, without building two campaigns.

Unlike an Order Discount, it discounts product lines, not the cart total.

Setting one up

  1. Open Hype Campaigns and click Create New Campaign.
  2. Enter a Campaign name.
  3. Choose Multi Products Discount as the discount type.
  4. Choose a Campaign type and a discount method, then click Next.
  5. Fill in Title or Discount code.
  6. Set Target markets, and tick Customize amounts for each market if values differ by market.
  7. Set Minimum purchase requirements — this gate applies to the whole campaign, not to one rule.
  8. Under Discounts, click Add discount to create Discount #1.
  9. For each discount, choose Percentage or Amount and type the Discount value.
  10. Under Applies to any items from, leave All products and collections ticked, or untick it and pick Products or Collections.
  11. Use Exclude Products / Collections to carve items out of that rule.
  12. Repeat from step 8 for each further rule.
  13. Set Usage limits if you need them (below).
  14. Set the shared settings — purchase type, customer eligibility, combinations, sales channels and active dates. See common campaign settings.
  15. Click Next, add any campaign blocks, and click Finish.

How overlapping rules resolve

A product that qualifies under more than one rule is discounted by the first matching rule only. Rules are matched in the order they appear, so put your most specific rule first and your catch-all last. A campaign with "All products and collections at 10%" as Discount #1 and "Outerwear at 30%" as Discount #2 gives outerwear 10%, because the first rule already matched.

Once per order

When a rule's type is Amount — not Percentage — a Once per order checkbox appears under the value.

  • Unchecked (the default): the full amount comes off each eligible item. A $10 rule on a cart with three eligible items takes $30.
  • Checked: the amount is split across all eligible items. A $10 rule takes $10 in total, spread over them.

The admin also warns about Live Pricing here: with Once per order checked, Hype cannot work out how much of the discount belongs to each product unless there is only one, so live storefront prices will not show correctly on carts with several products.

Percentage rules never show this checkbox — a percentage is inherently per item.

Usage limits

Usage limits caps how much of a qualifying cart a rule can touch. Both settings are off by default.

  • Set a maximum number of discountable line items per order — then "Maximum n discountable line items for an order". Setting 1 discounts a single line even when five qualify.
  • Set a usage limit for same products in an order — caps how many units of the same product get the discount.
  • Apply discount first to — decides which lines win when a cap bites: Most expensive product, Least expensive product, or Cart order (the order items were added).

These are Hype's own limits, evaluated when the cart is priced. They are different from Maximum discount rules, which is Shopify's cap on how often a code can be redeemed.

What Shopify enforces and what Hype enforces

Shopify owns the code or title, the schedule, customer eligibility, redemption limits and Combinations.

Hype owns every discount rule, its targeting and exclusions, the usage limits above, target markets, minimum purchase, purchase type and sales channels.

Limits and gotchas

  • The first matching rule wins. Order your rules from most specific to least.
  • Exclusions are per rule. Excluding a collection in Discount #1 does not exclude it from Discount #2.
  • Minimum purchase is campaign-wide. You cannot require a different minimum for each rule. If you need that, use Volume Discount or split the campaign.
  • Once per order breaks Live Pricing on multi-product carts. Leave it unchecked if live storefront prices matter more than the exact total.
  • This type never discounts shipping or the order total. It only touches product lines. For an order-level discount, use Order Discount; for shipping, use Cart Goals.
  • Two product discounts stack on an order but not on the same line. That is Shopify's rule and no setting changes it.
  • A rule with no products selected fails validation — Hype asks you to "Please select at least one item".
